Quickbooks online

Obviously not all of us can work remotely as some vocations require individuals to go to their place of work or travel to undertake their tasks in person. But for those of us are allowed to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share what I have learned and give some practical wisdom by distributing it on the Internet in the hope that I could give others helpful shortcuts for adapting to remote working or managing remote workers.

I should warn you that there are a substantial number of self proclaimed ‘gurus’ online who will try and make you purchase information for significant sums of money, believe me you don’t have to do this.

I am blessed to be permitted to work anywhere I choose and just about everybody who asks me what job I do wants to get an idea of how I am able to work remotely. Don’t get the wrong idea I am still developing the science of remote working as all of the time I meet individuals on the Internet who teach me new knowledge and I am repeatedly coming across new packages and approaches that make my life simpler and improve my productivity.

During the past 7 years I have steadily adapted my working practices to let me to do the majority of my work remotely with a selection of web tools and robust self management. One late night whilst exploring the Internet I found Quickbooks online and this brought to my attention what just might be possible. My discovery of ’hosted’ ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was a life changing event for me and the start of my ‘remote working experience.

I must inform you up front that proficiently working remotely is as much about the tools as it is about self management. Working remotely also means putting it to your colleagues, supervisors and clients as to what they can expect and how they will maintain contact with you.

In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – Best practises’ I write about how to focus.
