Employees can learn the functions of different departments such as kitchen, bar and banquet operations. A manager’s duties also cover hiring new employees and ensuring the quality of performance and service remains high in the current employees. Housekeeping staff are also required in this industry but does demand working shifts which is ideal for someone who can work different schedules. The most important part of the restaurant is the kitchen. Someone could work as a chef, a food manager or be in charge of the food and beverage inventory. There are many areas to move up and around in with a career in this industry.
Like working in other industries, the hotel and restaurant industry requires devotion and hard work whether you’re in a management position or work under management. Customer service standards are always high and seem to be getting higher in today’s society. All employees should be clean, well groomed and polite. They should always be aware of the latest ways to improve their customer service and improve business.
