Who owns the rights to the first Star Wars movie, “A New Hope?” Is it Lucas or Twentieth Century Fox?
Lucas clearly owns all of the other Star Wars movies, since he retained the sequel rights as part of his deal for “A New Hope.” However, the first Star Wars movie was financed by Twentieth Century Fox. Do they actually retain ownership of it, or did Lucas aquire the rights through some method? If Fox owns it, does he have to pay licensing or royalties on all of his reissues of it?
