I used to run a Career Group and this, as you already know, is one of the most common questions. The key is to name a weakness that is actually a strength- such as that you have a tendency to take on too many tasks. Follow up with weaknesses by stating that these are things that you are learning from and working on.

I don’t feel I have any weaknesses , but, if I did, I would want to improve that weakness.and make it one of my many strengths!

I think you should be somewhat honest here. Everyone has weaknesses- what’s important is to show that you are aware of them and trying to improve on them. For instance, one of my weaknesses is that I tend to tease and joke with my coworkers, and sometimes it is hard for people to tell that I’m joking. I’d tell this to interviewers, but I’ll also tell them that I am working on not joking around and that I usually warn my coworkers that they shouldn’t take the things I say too seriously. This shows that I’m aware of my flaws and working to fix them.

Also, it depends what kind of job you are applying for- choose a weakness that doesn’t relate specifically to what you are doing. I don’t interact with a lot of people in my line of work, which is why I described a flaw that only comes up in conversations. If I was applying to a sales job I’d choose something different, like my neat-freak tendencies. Everyone’s got flaws- just describe the weakness that will be the least harmful in the job you’re applying for and explain how you are working to improve it.

I think that you should respond to that question as:

“I am always determined to solve a case and it interferes with the rest of my life.”

No one ever tells anything really bad about themselves when applying for a job. I usually add something that makes me look good and is only verified after they evaluate my work. 1. I have a problem of putting the job first and neglecting my home life(or my husband etc) 2. I sometimes become too much of a perfectionist at work when I should quit when it is good enough. 3. Include something to do with the nature of the job to which you are applying, inferring that you spend off duty time trying to improve your skills.

A lot of it has to do with what you do for a living. I am a nurse and I say that sometimes I get too attached to my patients. What type of jobs are you interviewing for?
